Marissa Barragan began her dance career at age 3 in a ballet-tap-acro combo class and has since trained in classical ballet, contemporary, jazz, modern, tap, and hip-hop. Upon joining a pre-professional dance company at age 13, Marissa began attending and competing alongside her best friends and sisters in several dance competitions and conventions each year, ultimately winning a total of ten titles in the state of California, the talent division in the Distinguished Young Women pageant, and five national runner-up titles, including Best Senior Female Dancer of the Year Runner-Up for both 2012 and 2013. Her most recent performances include both the 2012 and 2013 Dance Awards, Dance Machine: The Movie, the audition and callback rounds of Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, and can be seen as a backup dancer for Patti Labelle, Taylor Dayne, Charice Pempengco, American Idol’s Amanda Sanchez, Chaka Khan, and the Pointer Sisters. Marissa has recently been invited to tour nationally with West Coast Dance Explosion. She’s extremely excited to join GUDC as a company member and looks forward to dancing, teaching, and choreographing for as long as possible. Marissa would also like to acknowledge and thank her wonderful family for their love, critiques, and never-ending encouragement in her dance career. Soli Deo gloria.
